SKINNING

Skinning is to strip or deprive of skin. Also known as flaying, peeling or husking.
The skin is a surface layer that is well known in its three-dimensional, body defining, appearance. The technique used for skinning defines the shape of the flat hide. There are several skinning techniques; all done to separate or ‘undress’ the body from the skin. The skinning technique is chosen for a specific purpose. For instance: to gain meat, to practice taxidermy, for medical reasons, as medieval torture practice … Every skinning technique makes use of its own specialized set of tools.
