PERCEIVING SENSES - THE EYE VS. THE SKIN
PERCEIVING SENSES - THE EYE VS. THE SKIN
Source: Contemplation sketch by Amber Veel, 2013.
This contemplation started with a lyric I heard in a song: “I slowly watch you moving closer” (from: The Addict by Bo Saris). How can watching go slowly? Then there must be a distance between the subject and the perceiver/watcher. That is always the case with a visual perception. This distance offers time.
When I perceive through touch, on the other hand, the subject is directly on my skin. There’s no distance between the subject and me. There’s no time. Touch as a timeless sense.
